On July 30th, the National Museum of Korea re-opened the Gaya Confederacy section of the Prehistory and Ancient History Gallery, in Permanent Exhibition Hall. The renovated Gaya Confederacy section now features around 400 different works of pottery, iron, and jade, as well as many other precious accessories. About 150 of these artifacts are newly introduced, including several pottery vessels shaped like ships, which were excavated from both Changwon Hyundong and Gimhae Yeorae-ri. These artifacts offer invaluable evidence as to the form of ships of the Gaya Confederacy, which was known as the “Marine Kingdom.” Another rather humorous item is a duck-shaped pottery excavated from Gimhae Mangdeok-ri site, which features a tiny man lying flat on top of the duck’s head.
