These coins, called dangijeon in Korean, were made in 1679 (the 5th year of King Sukjong’s reign) with a denominated value twice that of the original coin made a year earlier, and thus came to be used more commonly than the original one. At first, these coins were used only in Seoul and its environs, but they gradually spread nationwide.
