This bird and flower painting depicts a pair of ducks swimming in water while three mountain birds perch in the branches of a peach tree. It lyrically portrays spring scenery in a valley of rippling waters. This valley with its peach trees in bloom is reminiscent of the entry to the paradise described in the Account of the Peach Blossom Spring (桃花源記, Ch. Taohua yuan ji) by Tao Yuanming (陶淵明, 365–427), symbolizing an ideal world. Based on its composition and brushstrokes reminiscent of court paintings from the Ming Dynasty of China, this painting is presumed to have been produced by a seventeenth-century court painter from the Royal Academy of Painting (圖畵署, Dohwaseo) that favored the style of the Zhe School (浙派).
