This is a rubbed copy of the Stele for Buddhist Monk Jingong at the Heungbeopsa Temple site. The original stele, designated as Treasure No. 463, was made by collecting the required characters from reference books. Jingong was a Seon Master in the Later Three Kingdoms Period, who was born into a noble family, went China to study, and returned under the auspices of King Taejo, the founder of the Goryeo Dynasty. This stele is very important in that it has provided important information about the characteristics of monuments built during the early Goryeo Dynasty and about political trends during the early years of King Taejo’s reign.
