Gyeongguk daejeon (National Code) is a book containing the basic canon of codes of the Joseon Dynasty, whose compilation was started at the order of King Sejo (r. 1455-1468) and completed during the reign of King Seongjong (r. 1469-1494). It includes the contents of Gyeongje yukjeon (Six Codes of Governance) and other statutes enacted later on. This woodblock-printed book was produced based on the original edition, and was published with the use of metal types in 1661 (the 2nd year of King Hyeonjong’s reign).
