This painting of plum blossoms produced by O Dal-je (1609-1637), who was widely admired as one of the Samhaksa (Three Noble Scholars), along with Yun Jip and Hong Ik-han, features the use of delightfully gentle brush strokes and skillful ink wash painting to represent his image of nobility, sincerity and loyalty. His ink wash paintings of plum blossoms exerted a strong influence upon those of the younger generation of literati artists such as Jo Ji-un, Hong Su-ju, and Jo Hui-ryong.
