This painting is a full-length portrait of Zhuge Liang (諸葛亮, 181‒234). The detailed depiction of facial features and the orderly lines and coloring suggest that this painting might have been produced by a court painter from the Royal Academy of Painting (圖畫署, Dohwaseo). In the upper section of the painting is Praise to Portrait of Lord Zhuge Liang (諸葛武侯畫像贊) written by Zhang Shi (張栻, 1133‒1180), a Neo-Confucian scholar of the Southern Song Dynasty.
