Pottery of the Central Western Region
The central western region comprises Seoul and the provinces of Pyeongannam-do, Hwanghae-do, and Gyeonggi-do. Comb-pattern pottery with pointed bottoms was primarily used in this region. By observing the comb-pattern, it is possible to distinguish the pottery of the early period (from 4500 to 3000 BCE), featuring elaborately rendered patterns that differ between the upper and lower sections of the vessel, from the pottery of the later period (after 3500 BCE), which features more scattered patterns. The shapes and patterns of comb-pattern pottery of the central western region were transmitted to other parts of the Korean Peninsula accompanying the movement of people.
