Toshusai Sharaku was an artist of the ukiyo-e genre of woodblock printing and painting who was particularly active in 1794 and 1795. Most of his works are portraits of kabuki actors and actresses. This painting is a portrait of a kabuki actor named Matsumoto Koshiro.
