This map of Gyeonggi-do was contained in a collection of privately-produced woodblock printed maps. During the Joseon Dynasty, the private ownership of maps was banned in principle. Starting from the late 17th century, however, individuals were allowed to own maps and even members of the gentry made excellent maps. At the margins of such maps many features were recorded, such as the number of private houses, the amount of taxes imposed on rice paddies and dry fields, military bases, mountain fortsses, the military system, and local history.
