This is an exquisite copy of Jeong Sang-gi’s Dongguk Jido (Map of the Eastern State). It falls under the category of typical original maps of Dongguk Jido. However, this one does not contain the kind of brief statements about the map and the scale that are often found in the Hamgyeong-do part of other maps. The map is thought to have been made before 1820, the year in which the Huju-bu (Hamgyeong Provincial Office) was established, as the name of the office is not stated. Its top margin provides information on the number of local government offices and the names of the villages in each province. Unlike the other Dongguk Jido made by Jeong Sang-gi, this one is noteworthy in that it includes Sasangeumpyodo (Map of Prohibition Marks on Four Mountains). It marks the areas surrounding Hanseong (present-day Seoul) where the felling of pine trees was prohibited.
