A groove was cut in the middle of the back of a brightly colored, red-and-blue phoenix, and a brass oil lamp was then inserted into the groove. As seen in the brilliant colors common in Buddhism, the shape of the phoenix, and the loop above, this lamp seems to have been hung from the ceiling to adorn a Buddhist hall.
