This painting depicts scenes from the life of Hong Gye-hui (penname: Damwa, 1703-1771), a high-ranking civil official during the reign of King Yeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty. Although only six sections remain, it is thought to have originally consisted of eight sections, the missing two perhaps showing scenes of Hong’s first birthday party and his wedding ceremony. The complex depiction of people and buildings is thought to stress the large scale of the events.
