The Chinese characters on the cover of this painting album relate its title, Yangnyu Nudaedo (Paintings of a Pavilion with a Willow), and the pen-name of Min Yeong-ik (1860-1914), a politician who was active towards the end of the Joseon period. It is believed that Min purchased the collection while residing in Shanghai, China. These paintings depicting a single place were created in Shanghai at the end of the Qing Dynasty by five painters, including Wu Guxiang, Yu Li, and Pan Geng.
