This painting by Yi Sang-jwa is dominated by a tall, arched pine tree, providing a dramatic contrast with the gentleman observing the moon, the errand boy, and the distant, dimly-visible mountain. As the depiction of the pine tree is similar to one by Ma Yuan of the Southern Song Dynasty of China, this painting tells us that the Southern Song style of court painting had been introduced into the country by the early Joseon period.
