These bricks were found along with roof tiles among heaps of collapsed stones from the Taewangneung (the Tomb of King Gwanggaeto of Goguryeo) and Cheonchuchong Tombs. They were made of fine clay and hardened during firing. The Chinese characters carved in relief are prayers for the eternal preservation of the tomb. These bricks are presumed to have been used to build buildings over large stone-mound tombs of the Goguryeo period.
