Peach Blossom
This painting of Peach Blossom was created by the literati painter Tanomura Chokunyu, who was active during the Meiji period (1868–1912). The subject is drawn from Peach Blossom Spring written by the Chinese poet Tao Yuanming (365–427), in which a fisherman, lured by the scent of peach blossoms, discovers an idyllic utopia. According to the inscription at the top of the painting, it was inspired by the real landscape of Kurushima Island and its surroundings.
