These paintings depict scenes from a banquet held on and around the Hangang River for Ming envoys from China. During their visit, the envoys toured Seoul and engaged with Joseon intellectuals through the exchange of poetry and literary works. One of the places they wished to visit was the Hangang River. For their river excursions, they used jeongjaseon (pavilion boats), which featured raised wooden platforms for seating, supporting pillars, and thatched roofs made of reed. The first and second panels, which depict the foreground, feature Jamdubong Peak in Mapo and Seonyudo Island in the middle of the river. The third and fourth panels show a pavilion boat drifting along the Hangang River, accompanied by smaller boats, as well as a scene of people setting up a tent and preparing for an event at the site of Jecheonjeong Pavilion in present-day Hannam-dong, Seoul.
