The trunk of an oak tree about 80 cm in diameter was split in half vertically, and both pieces were hollowed out inside to be used as the coffin’s body and lid. The lid was split once more vertically to form two pieces. Several holes were bored into the coffin’s lid and body so that it could be tied together or anchored to the bottom of the grave pit.
