Gold Earrings

These gold earrings were found in a Mahan tomb at Woonyang-dong, Gimpo. They are made of thin gold plates rolled into a shoehorn shape, and the spiral loops attached to the tops were used to wear the earrings. Such unique gold earrings are mainly found at Laoheshen, a site in Yushu, Jilin Province, China. The absence of similar examples elsewhere on the Korean Peninsula, and the fact that precious metal ornaments were not popular in Samhan society at the time, suggests that these earrings may have come from Buyeo.
