Bronze Artifacts Assemblage Attributed to Deoksan
This set of bronze bells is known to have been discovered in Deoksan-myeon, Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnamdo Province. It is comprised of seven pieces: a pair of eight-headed bronze bells, a pair of double-headed bronze bells, a pair of single-headed bells, and a combined double-headed bell. The bronze bells were shaken to make noises to chase off or call the spirits. The patterns decorating the bells are very sophisticated, showing the high level of workmanship at the time. This set is the finest of the several ritual bronze assemblages that have been discovered at sites in the southwestern region of Korea dating to the 3rd to 2nd centuries BCE.
