The mouth and upper part of this vessel were decorated with black eggplant motifs. As in the case of red burnished pottery, its surface was rubbed to obtain a smooth finish. The black color of the eggplant motifs is believed to have been obtained by covering sections of the vessel surface with additional clay, which allowed for less heat transfer and thus incomplete firing.
