Making Beads for Ornaments

In the Bronze Age, personal ornaments such as necklaces were made primarily from amazonite and jasper. Tubular beads were roughly shaped by working the stone into a certain shape. The stone piece was then held in place, and a hole was drilled using a stone awl combined with a spindle and bow. Fine sand was added to the hole to aid drilling. The bead was polished and finished with a whetstone.
