This adze features a single-sided blade. The deep grove kept in place the rope that joined the adze to a wooden handle at a right angle. The cutting edge was perpendicular to the handle, and so the tool was swung in a downwards motion. It was likely a woodworking tool, used to remove bark, etc., illustrating that wooden tools had come to be actively produced.
