This axe is known as a “fan-shaped bronze axe” due to the shape of the blade section. Although it could have been used for practical purposes, it was likely used in agricultural rituals since bronze was highly valuable at the time. Bronze axes can be categorized into different types according to the shape of the blade and the socket: fan-shaped, square-shaped, shouldered and round-shaped, and shouldered. Fan-shaped bronze axes were generally used during the Bipa-shaped Bronze Dagger Culture, and the other types during the Slender Bronze Dagger Culture. The discovery of a fan-shaped bronze axe mold from a dwelling at the Songguk-ri site in Buyeo indicates that bronze axes were made in the southern regions of the Korean Peninsula at the time.
