The handaxe is representative artifact of the Paleolithic Period on the Korean Peninsula. Paleolithic people searched far and wide for suitable stones, and they detached stone flakes from both sides of these stones using another stone as a hammer to create sharp edges. This meant that they could be used for almost anything from hunting, skinning animals, working wood, or digging the ground.
