The Jakeun Solbat Site in Hahwagye-ri, Hongcheon

Changes in chipped stone tools over time can be observed at the site of Jakeun Solbat (small pine forest) in Hahwagye-ri, Hongcheon, Gangwondo Province. In the deepest layer of the site, large stone tools, such as handaxes, which belong to the earlier Paleolithic, were discovered. In a layer above, small stone tools such as microblades, which belong to the later Paleolithic, were discovered. The results of scientific analysis have yielded dates as early as 79,000±4,000 BP and as late as 13,390±60 BP.
