To commemorate special occasions, the Daehan Empire would produce and issue imperial badges that were to be worn by officials above a certain rank. Such badges were issued a total of five times: in 1901, for Emperor Gojong’s fiftieth birthday; in 1902, for his fifty-first birthday and the fortieth anniversary of his reign; twice in 1907, for the crown prince’s marriage and Emperor Sunjong’s ascension to the throne; and in 1909, for Emperor Sunjong’s tour to inspect the living conditions of people in the southwest regions.
