Celadon Jar with Inlaid Cloud and Crane Design

Numerous cranes glide through a spacious sky, interspersed with mysterious zigzag-shaped clouds. Symbolizing nobility and longevity, cranes have long been a favorite motif for Korean ceramicists. In particular, many Goryeo celadon vessels feature elegant renditions of the “cloud and crane design,” providing a glimpse of the aristocratic culture of the Goryeo Dynasty, while also representing the world of Taoist immortals, revered by people of the era.
