Bronze Lotus-shaped Incense Burner

Bronze Lotus-shaped Incense Burner
The handle of this bronze incense burner splits into two “stems,” one of which curls up to support the blossom-shaped receptacle, while the other curves down to connect to the leaf-shaped base. Incense burners shaped like a lotus with stems were first produced in China’s Liao Dynasty, before apparently being transmitted to the Goryeo Dynasty around the late eleventh century. This particular incense burner bears an inscription stating that it was produced in 1077.
