Gilt-silver Bowls with Inscription: “Bongnyeonggungbanggo”
Each of these gilt-silver bowls is shaped like a flower with six petals. The interior surface was decorated with the repoussé technique and gilded with silver. An inscription on the back reads “bongnyeonggungbanggo,” which means that the bowls were made especially for use in the residence of Princess Bongnyeong, the fourth daughter of Goryeo’s King Sukjong. Since they are known to have been produced in the early twelfth century by the royal court, these bowls serve as a valuable benchmark for dating other metalworks.
