During the Joseon Dynasty, Confucian funerary practices were observed. According to one such practice, the primary mourner was required to construct a temporary shelter near the grave of the deceased, in order to properly maintain the grave for a period of three years. This epitaph tablets state that Prince Jean (1466-1525) properly followed this practice.
