In this painting of a blacksmith’s workshop, Kim Hong-do shows no interest in the surrounding environment, but focuses solely on the workers who are completely immersed in their tasks, using hammers and tongs, grindstone, anvil and bellows. The workers’ inflated muscles and pouring sweat create a vivid impression of the energy and vitality in the daily work of common people during the late Joseon Period.
