This painting commemorates an event in which twelve officials offered honorary titles to Crown Prince Jangheon (a.k.a. Sado, 1735-1762) and Lady Hong (1735-1815). The first six panels show the subjects’ offering their congratulations to the king, while the seventh and eighth panels provide a list of the ceremony’s participants. This painting was executed by skillful court painters, as evidenced by the intricate arrangement of numerous figures in the courtyard, the use of gold pigments, and the adept, elegant brushwork.
