This painting is the work of Kim Su-cheol, who adopted a unique painting style prevalent towards the end of the Joseon Period. The lines of verse written at the top of the painting reveal that it concerns the tale of Lin Bu, a hermit scholar of the Song Dynasty. The painting features brief touches of the brush, simple figures, and soft yet clear colors. The mountains and rocks are expressed by contour lines, without the portrayal of dark and light, showing the unique brevity of Kim Su-cheol’s paintings.
