Gukjo bogam (Precious Mirror for Succeeding Reigns) is a book containing the records of the accomplishments of King Jeongjo, King Sunjo, and the Crown Prince Hyomyeong, who was a son of King Sunjo and posthumously acclaimed as Ikjong. The tradition of making such a chronological-style history book about the accomplishments of previous kings was established by King Sejong, who wanted to set guidelines for running state affairs in light of the accomplishments of his predecessors. This book was made in 1848 by Jo In-yeong (1782-1850) and others, by the order of King Heonjong.
