This roof-end tile from the Unified Silla Period is elaborately decorated with a relief carving of a bodhisattva, surrounded by a patterned band of eight stylized floral medallions and another thin ring of flowers around the edge. The bodhisattva is expressed with more depth and more detail than the flowers. The folds of her swirling garment are rhythmically delineated, filling the smaller central circle. The flower petals are also carved rather intricately, with fine ridges and grooves. Furthermore, the skilled composition conveys a strong sense of stability. The close attention to detail and arrangement attest to the sophistication of tile production during the cultural zenith of the Unified Silla Period.
