This is a certificate issued to a person named Jo Gi-yeong, after he passed a state exam for the recruitment of high-ranking officials, in the third lunar month of 1814 (the 14th year of King Sunjo’s reign). The name of the successful examinee and his score were given on a sheet of red paper. The practice started in the Goryeo Period.
