This painting portrays a scene from a small banquet held by King Myeongjong at Seochongdae in Changdeokgung Palace with a few close retainers in the ninth lunar month of 1560 (the 15th year of his reign). The civil officials composed poems based on a title selected by the king while the military officials competed with each other in feats of archery.
