Yi Jing was a Joseon Dynasty court painter active during the 17th century. He was skilled in creating flamboyant landscapes using gold powder. This painting portrays a Buddhist monk with a cane returning home to his temple at sunset. The portrayal of the cliff indicates the influence of the Zhe school of painting (a Ming Dynasty style of painting with influences from the Zhejiang region). The overall spatial composition is based on An Gyeon’s painting style.
