The National Museum of Korea is presenting twenty items related to children throughout its several permanent exhibition galleries in celebration of Children’s Day and Family Month in May of 2023. Wide-ranging depictions of innocent children are featured  in artworks. They are shown as protagonists in sacred religious art, a symbol of fecundity and abundance in paintings and craftworks, and as actors in genre paintings depicting the everyday lives of Joseon-era Koreans. We encourage you to appreciate Koreans’ various perspectives on understanding children and the diverse depictions of them while encountering manifestations of children in old artworks.
