The National Museum of Korea (Director Kim Youngna) presents the special exhibition, New Acquisitions of Asian Art, from May 25, 2014 to June 22, 2014 in the Thematic Exhibition Gallery of National Museum of Korea.

This exhibition presents works of art from various parts of Asia that have been purchased by the museum over the years to improve the Asian Galleries of the museum. The National Museum of Korea has made a sustained effort to acquire cultural heritages related to Asia through purchases and donations, and has been doing its utmost to share its understanding of Asian culture with the public by unveiling its collections in permanent exhibitions in the Asian Galleries and through various special exhibitions.
This new exhibition will display sixty-six artifacts that have not yet been presented to the public. Some of the exhibits are recently purchased pieces, while others have been purchased since 2002, and have undergone proper preservation treatment and research. The exhibition will offer an invaluable opportunity for visitors to see a different aspect of the museum, which is striving to rise as the important center for the exhibition and research on Asian culture. Furthermore, the museum plans to organize a special complementary exhibition in October to present Asian objects that were collected during the Japanese Colonial Period (1910-1945).
We hope that this exhibition will further visitors’ understanding of the diversity of Asian art and enhance understanding of the distinct cultures of each region in Asia.
