The Bhaisagya Buddha (also called the Universal Healer or Medicine Buddha) provides not only relief from disease, misfortune, but it also provides food and clothes. When he was a saint, he held Twelve Great Aspirations, including saving the people. Upon becoming Buddha, he ruled the Lapis Lazuli realm in the east. In Korea, images of the Bhaisagya Buddha are made of a Buddha holding a round medicine bowl. It was during the Unified Silla Period that images of the Bhaisagya Buddha were made in large numbers.
