The Lee Hong-kun collection features key relics selected from 4.941 cultural assets donated by Dongwon (東垣) Lee Hong-kun (李洪根)(1900~1980). Sir Lee Hong-kun was a conscious cultural enthusiast who valued the preservation of cultural assets and their return to
society and carried out various activities related to culture. For instance, he established the first corporate museum, Dongwon Art Gallery. After his passing, the family of the deceased donated his collection to the country according to his will. The cultural assets donated by Sir
Lee Hong-kun is very diverse covering earthwares of Korea, China, and Japan, roof tiles, metal crafts, ceramics, calligraphic works, Buddhist sculptures, etc. In particular, ceramics encompasses a wide range from celadon and Buncheong Wares, to white porcelain
and allows us to explore the transformation of Korean potteries. The collection displays various ceramics from Goryeo and Joseon Dynasty including Buncheon Ware lotus vine pattern bottle, treasure no. 1067, calligraphic works of Joseon Dynasty, bronze mirror and seals,
among others.
