The place for patriarchs during the Joseon Dynasty, Sarangbang was used as a place to study, or library, or a place to treat male visitors. It is also a favorite place to have social exchange. While noblemen, or Confucius scholars strove to devote themselves to their studies,
they sought the unified world of study and art in harmony with reason and sensitivity through poems, calligraphic works, and paintings, etc. The heart of learning and art activities, Sarangbang was decorated to fully reflect the owner’s taste as the measurement of the
owner’s discernment and dignity. Especially as, influenced by Confucius social environment, people praised honest poverty, and many selected their furniture and household appliances to be simple and classical. This exhibition gallery shows paintings and calligraphic
works, stationery goods for Confucius scholars of the Joseon Dynasty as well as daily provisions used in Sarangbang. In particular, the Sarangbang replica installed in the gallery shows the arrangement of ordinary Sarangbang and helps you peek into the daily life of
noblemen during the Joseon Dynasty.
